Shannon is highly regarded for her insurance litigation expertise, specifically in medical negligence, health law and professional indemnity claims. She has provided extensive advice to numerous Australasian and international insurers, brokers and underwriting agencies in defending claims and advising on wider insurance indemnity issues.

Prior to moving to Perth in 2011, Shannon practised in New Zealand as a civil and criminal litigator with a focus on insurance litigation.

Shannon acts for health professionals including physiotherapists, chiropractors, pharmacists, psychologists, dentists, podiatrists and veterinarians in a range of matters including civil claims, patient complaint handling, statutory health authority investigations (including responding to AHPRA notifications and complaints made to HaDSCO), disciplinary proceedings referred by National Boards to the State Administrative Tribunal, coronial inquiries, private health fund audits, Medicare audits and privacy complaints before the OAIC. She has also acted extensively for hospitals, doctors and private practices defending medical negligence claims in a wide range of medical areas including obstetrics, neonatal, gynaecology, rural medicine, oncology, emergency medicine, clinical pathology, general surgery and ophthalmology. Shannon is experienced in managing claims involving catastrophic injuries including cerebral palsy and neurological deficits resulting in paraplegia.

Beyond this, Shannon has defended claims on behalf of a wide variety of professionals including engineers, accountants, construction contractors and insurance brokers.

Shannon is recognised by Best Lawyers Australia as a leading lawyer in Insurance Law for 2020 and 2021. She has also been recognised as a recommended Medical Negligence and Malpractice lawyer (defendant) in the 2019, 2018, 2017 and 2016 editions of Doyle’s Guide.
