Teresa Haykowsky, K.C. is a powerful and dedicated advocate for her clients. She provides practical advice and solid solutions based on her depth of knowledge in education law, labour and employment and constitutional and administrative law and her commitment to exceptional service.

Teresa is completely dedicated to advising and representing both public and private school boards and districts, as well as independent schools in the decisions they make to support education.

She handles administrative and constitutional law for school authorities, as well as labour and employment and human rights matters, including sexual harassment, student-related issues, school closures, policy review, internal investigations, and school board governance and trustee matters. Teresa is fluently bilingual and able to offer the entire range of her services in French.

The evolution and change occurring in education law is of particular interest to her and she is skilled in balancing the rights of students to find practical solutions. With her creativity and experience, she has the ability to look outside of purely theoretical or academic solutions.

In addition to her education law clients, Teresa assists municipalities, government, and the management-side of organizations from many different industry sectors.

She provides recommendations on the labour and employment aspect of day-to-day issues and assists with wrongful dismissals, privacy, drafting employment contracts, non-competition and confidentiality agreements, harassment policies, occupational health and safety, employment standards, and general employment policies and practices.

Teresa has extensive litigation experience in English and in French in labour and employment law, constitutional, privacy and administrative law and advising professional bodies in the regulation of their members.

With clients across Alberta and Quebec, she also assists large municipalities and hamlets in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut in matters of municipal and administration law, including bylaws and city council issues.

Authentic and dedicated, her reputation for reliable and smart advice is well-earned. Her clients have relied on her fierce advocacy for decades in all types of litigation, labour arbitrations, collective bargaining, grievance hearings, and Board of Reference hearings. She litigates and advises on francophone minority linguistic rights and section 23 Charter rights. She has also appeared before every level of court in Alberta, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Alberta Labour Relations Board, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, various human rights tribunals, arbitration boards, and other administrative tribunals, including hearings before school boards of trustees.

Teresa has a unique understanding of industry, as well as the law. She strives to understand what will work for each individual client and knows sometimes the law is only one part of what they're looking for and other times it is the whole answer.

In her practice, Teresa often deals with high-conflict situations and short deadlines. She makes these files her priority. She is reachable any time, seven days a week, because client service is her focus and helping people is her goal. To Teresa, the work should always be about the client and never about the lawyer.
