Gabriel Bustamante is BUSTAMANTE + FREYRE founding and manager partner. Also, he is an environmental, climate change and ESG expert.
As head of the largest environmental firm of Mexico, his areas of expertise include: electricity, oil and gas, industry, infrastructure projects, touristic developments and equator principles. He has taken an active hand in significant development projects in Mexico, valued together at more than $80 billion, over the last 15 years.
He has been the leading advocate of renewable energy projects of more than 9,500 MW; gas transportation of over 7,000 km; oil and gas exploration and production activiies; liquefaction, storage and transloading facilities; numerous combined cycle power plants; cogenerations; transmission lines; and distribution networks. He is a top practitioner on environmental and social impact assessment with more than 600 approvals.
Mr. Bustamante also has experience in working with national and international NGOs and federal, state and local governments. He has participated in drafting model rules on environmental issues for indigenous Mexican communities, whose legal regimes are based largely on custom and has handle several indigenous consultations and public hearings across the country.
Mr. Bustamante received his law degree from the Ibero-American University (UIA), where he graduated with honors. He also has a master’s degree in environmental law and public policy, with special mention, from the Center for Environmental Research and Learning. He complemented his legal education with studies in Italy, the United States and France.
