Ben's practice focuses primarily on corporate, partnership and planning areas with an emphasis on federal and state taxation. He has represented a variety of business clients in numerous transactions involving acquisitions, mergers and reorganizations. He has extensive experience with oil and gas transactions. He has successfully represented companies and estates before the various appeals offices of the Internal Revenue Service, the United States Tax Court, U.S. District Court, Court of Federal Claims and other tribunals concerning tax deficiency matters, claims for refund, complex audits and litigation matters. Ben is a frequent lecturer on taxation and planning issues. He has given presentations for the Louisiana State University Law School, Louisiana Bar Association, Louisiana Society of CPAs, the Tax Estate Planning Counsel of Shreveport and other professional and civic organizations.
Ben has been listed in the Woodward/White Publication, The Best Lawyers in America, for tax law each year since 2007. He has been listed in Super Lawyers® for Louisiana in corporate law and tax law for each year since 2007. Ben is also listed in the 2016 "Best Law Firm" rankings by US News and World Report in the field of tax law. He is listed in SB Magazine as one of Shreveport's best lawyers. He was a shareholder with the law firm of Cook, Yancey, King & Galloway from 1993 through 2007.
Ben received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Louisiana State University in 1984. He received his law degree from Louisiana State University in 1987. He obtained an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1988. Ben is a Board Certified Tax Law Specialist under the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization. He is licensed to practice in Louisiana and Texas. Ben is a past Chairman of the Tax Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association. He was past Chairman of the Tax Law Advisory Commission of the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization of the Louisiana State Bar Association and is a current Board Member. Ben is a past Chairman of the Examination Committee for the Tax Law Advisory Commission for the Board Certification Exam for Tax Law Specialization. He has prepared questions and answers for the Board Certification Exam for Tax Law since 1998. Ben is also a former President and Board Member of the Tax and Estate Planning Counsel of Shreveport.
Ben is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), Taxation Section (Partnership Committee); State Bar of Texas (State Bar College status); State Bar of Louisiana and Shreveport Bar Association.
Ben is a current member of the Committee of One Hundred.
